Famous Hollywood Action Star “Tony Jaa” Holds Brahma Worship Ceremony at Wat Chong Samaesan for the Creation of Brahma Amulets

On 14 June 2023, Mr. Panom Yeerum, internationally known as Tony Jaa, Thailand’s world-famous Hollywood action star, visited Wat Chong Samaesan together with his team. He paid respects to Phra Khru Wisarnsutakorn, Ecclesiastical Chief of Plutaluang Subdistrict and Abbot of Wat Chong Samaesan, to seek permission to conduct a worship ceremony for the Great Sahampati Brahma at the temple as part of a project to create commemorative Brahma amulets.

The ceremony held on this day marked the first of three consecration ceremonies. Two additional ceremonies were scheduled to take place at Wat Khanon. Reservations for the Brahma amulets were planned to open on 5 August 2023 at Wat Khanon in Ayutthaya Province and internationally in countries including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore.

In Buddhism, Brahma is regarded as a celestial being of extraordinary wisdom, diligence, and spiritual attainment who has transcended worldly desires and resides in the Brahma realm. Stories and beliefs surrounding Brahma have been passed down through Thai culture since the Sukhothai period and continue to the present day.

Traditionally, images of Maha Brahma are created with four faces and four arms, or sometimes eight faces and eight arms, holding various symbolic objects such as a ritual spoon, water vessel, sacred scriptures, divine weapons, mace, bow and arrows, rosary, and other sacred items. In modern times, Brahma images are commonly depicted in gold with a horse or swan as a divine vehicle.

At Wat Chong Samaesan, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province, Phra Khru Wisarnsutakorn and devoted supporters jointly constructed a giant image of Sahampati Brahma (Maha Brahma) with a lap width of 7.88 meters.

The sacred image was ceremonially enshrined on a stone pedestal at Wat Chong Samaesan on 22 November 2011. The grand consecration ceremony included a 199-meter-long floral garland offering and the chanting of auspicious blessings by 108 monks. The ceremony was presided over by Mrs. Sukumol Khunpluem, then Minister of Culture, and Mr. Itthiphol Khunpluem, then Mayor of Pattaya City.

Phra Khru Wisarnsutakorn explained that Buddhism recognizes Brahma as a protector of the Buddhist faith. One of the most significant examples is when Sahampati Brahma respectfully invited the Buddha to teach the Dhamma after His Enlightenment. This event is commemorated in the traditional Buddhist chanting phrase:

"Brahmā ca Lokādhipatī Sahampati"

which recalls Sahampati Brahma’s request for the Buddha to share His teachings with the world.

The abbot further explained that one of the central teachings of Buddhism is the practice of the Four Brahmavihāras (Divine Abodes), virtues associated with Brahma himself:

Metta (Loving-kindness) – showing compassion and goodwill toward others.
Karuna (Compassion) – helping and supporting those who are suffering.
Mudita (Sympathetic Joy) – rejoicing in the happiness and success of others without expecting anything in return.
Upekkha (Equanimity) – maintaining fairness, impartiality, and equality toward all beings.

These virtues are regarded as the path for those who aspire to attain the Brahma realms and cultivate a life of wisdom and compassion.
